The Me Phi crew headed out to the east coast last week and got a chance to hit up a couple of the trade shows that were being held in NY. Our favorite was definitely the Capsule Show - the BEST show period. The show took place in the Angel Orensanz Foundation Center, a building originally built as a synagogue in 1849. The building is incredible and the vibe of the show is cool and laid back. Brands that participated were stand-outs such as Staple, Kid Robot, Penfield, 3Sixteen, No Mas, and Public School. Very special thanks to our girl D and her crew, BPMW, for having us and for hosting an amazing show. See ya'll in Vegas!
I'm a sucka for talented musicians who can do covers of hip-hop and R&B (see Miri Ben-Ari post from a couple weeks ago). While searching for something on Youtube I stumbled across a guy who just might be the best at this art form. His name is David Sides and he is crazy talented. I've posted two of my favorite vids below but if you wanna hear more just go to Youtube and search his name, he has around 50 videos all together.
For those of you that are deaf, dumb, or living under rocks, Keri Hilson was in town this past week as part of Lil Wayne and T-Pain's latest tour. While in the Valley of the Sun she copped herself an official Fresh Fiends Tote and declared herself a fiend to the fullest.
The Fiends are awesome chicks. They've had our back since we opened and I can't help but get a little excited when somebody shows em a little love. Go here to see Keri with her Fresh Fiends Tote!.
The perfect size for toting the books or keeping all your 'must-haves' close at hand, the 'Simple Plaid' bag has woven canvas straps, plenty of pockets and a few original HellZ details thrown in.

This never gets old.
E*trade Baby is not always a "one take jake" as they say in the industry. Here are some out-takes involving our favorite blackberry toting infant and a few friends.
"You know, until just recently I only used my blackberry to, you know, just do emails and organize the occasional cuddle battle with a bad girl."
You may recognize Jason, or "J-Mac" as he is also known, from the new Gatorade "What is G" commercials narrated by Lil Wayne. Jason was diagnosed as an high functioning austistic at a young age. He did not speak until age 5. However, as he got older, and entered highschool he was able to improve his social skills and make friends. When he expressed an interest in basketball the Greece Athena Highschool Basketball Coach appointed him the team manager.
In the last game of Jason's senior year, he finally got a chance to put all his hard work to the test. With four minutes and a sizeable lead, Coach Jim Johnson put #52, never-tested 17yr old
J-Mac into the game. The rest is history.
Since this footage aired, Jason has met Peyton Manning, and former President Bush. He's gone of the Oprah show, and Magic Johnson has expressed interest in developing a movie about his life. In 2006 he won the ESPY Award for Best Moment in Sports. When asked about what he thinks his story can teach people, and especially those dealing with autism he says this:
"The sky's the limit..give it all the effort you can."

Wanted to take a second and shout out an up and coming duo known as The Knux. Crispy, one-half of the tandem, stopped by our shop a couple weeks ago and showed Me Phi some love. Their music is fresh, original, and straight up dope. And just like Me Phi they're from Louisiana so you know we're gonna rep them to the fullest! You can cop their album, "Remind Me in 3 Days", at stores or on Itunes.
From their website:
From their website:
For those of you who like to put things in boxes, it’s like this: The Knux are a self-produced group comprised of two brothers from New Orleans. They play all their own instrumentation and fight like The Kinks. Their debut album sounds like Outkast, Juvenile, Tha Pharcyde, and The Strokes concurrently blasting, out of a drop-top Jag on Sunset Blvd. on a Saturday night in the summer. Wrap your head around that.

Shout outs to the homie's Dao-Yi and Maxwell. Public School was just named Brand of the Year by Complex Magazine and deservedly so. Dao-Yi and Maxwell designs are insane and on top of that they're two cool ass dudes who showed Me Phi love out in NY. Congrats fellas and we can't wait to see where Public School goes from here.
Which brings us to Public School. Oh-eight was major for Dao-Yi Chow andMaxwell Osborne, the two Sean John veterans who founded Public School. Rather than churn out the usual trendy T-shirts and faux cut-and-sew pieces, PS released forward-thinking outerwear that did numbers in high-fashion retailers like Barney’s. If you’re not up on Public School, we suggest you get familiar, quick. Check out all the winners of our style awards in our feature HERE, then watch our brand new “Cut & Show” video with Public School below.
The masses are slowly but surely catching on - Hellz Bellz is the ish. Recently, Persona Magazine caught up with creator Lainie Alabaza and got her to spill some of her inspirations and aspirations for the line. From their website:
Contrary to popular belief not every girl is, well, a girly girl when it comes to fashion! Though on average it would seem like the fashion industry has a decent handle on what it takes to satisfy ladies clothing needs, sometimes certain voids are left unfulfilled. With street wear being one of the fastest growing sects in fashion, it was a matter of time before the evolution of ladies apparel took center stage. Making a personal mission out of killing the early design format that many street wear brands use for ladies apparel, Hellz Bellz founder/creative director, Lanie Alabaze, designs are to street wear what Rosey the Rivitor was to feminism.
I couldn't agree more. Unicorns and rainbows are awesome, but I don't always want them blazoned across my chest in all their bedazzled splendor. Click the link for the rest of the interview.

I remember reading the story of the Little Engine that Could when I was a child, and the mantra "I think I can, I think I can" was drilled into our heads to remind us to always keep striving and to always keep hoping even if the task seemed impossible. It's amazing to think that such a simple idea, reincarnated as "Yes We Can", has become the political banner under which we now seek to unite ourselves. Sometimes the simplest ideas are the best ideas, and I'm grateful to have a leader that understands that a lot of the kindness, common sense, and decency that we once possessed as children are lacking in our current political process and need to be reinstated.
It's time to Remake America.
I wonder if anyone truly realized what an impact this man and his words would still have on society all these years later.
